Sweet Talk: My Honest Take on Organic Honeys Worth Buzzing About

April 11, 2025

Disclosure: I received free products in exchange for an honest, unbiased review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Can we take a moment to talk about honey? Not the kind you find in a plastic bear bottle on your supermarket shelf. I’m talking about the real deal—the raw, unfiltered goodness that comes straight from the hive and into your kitchen with nothing added and nothing taken away. If you’ve never tried raw and unfiltered honey, you are in for a treat! It’s rich, flavorful, and packed with natural goodness that you just can’t get from processed varieties.

So, what exactly does “raw and unfiltered” mean? It means the honey hasn’t been heated or heavily filtered, preserving all the natural enzymes, antioxidants, and nutrients that make honey such a superfood. You might see tiny bits of pollen or propolis in raw honey—that’s a good thing! It’s a sign that your honey is as close to nature as it gets. Unfiltered honey also tends to have a thicker texture and more robust flavor. It’s perfect for baking, sweetening your tea, drizzling over yogurt, or just enjoying by the spoonful.

Recently, I got my hands on several delicious products from The Honey Jar, a company known for its commitment to providing raw, unfiltered honey and other all-natural goodies. I’m thrilled to share my experience with you because—spoiler alert—I loved everything! Here’s my honest review of each item they sent my way:

100% Beeswax Candle – Large Honeycomb Embossed

Let’s start with something that set the mood for my honey tasting session: the Large Honeycomb-Embossed Beeswax Candle. First things first…she is a stunner. The candle is beautifully crafted by local beekeepers and embossed with a honeycomb pattern that makes it almost too pretty to light…almost.

When I finally lit it, I was treated to the subtle, natural scent of beeswax—warm, comforting, and completely free from synthetic fragrances. It burned clean and slow, creating a cozy atmosphere that made my whole kitchen feel like a peaceful little nook. You can tell this candle is made with care and high-quality ingredients.

Utah Honey Corn, 7.5 oz

Okay, now let’s talk snacks. If you’re like me and love a good sweet-and-salty combo, the Utah Honey Corn is going to knock your socks off! This popcorn is coated in a buttery, caramelized honey glaze that’s honestly addictive. The flavor is rich without being overly sweet, and every bite had that perfect crunch followed by a melt-in-your-mouth finish. I found myself reaching for handful after handful. It’s the kind of snack you bring out when guests come over—if you can bear to share, that is.

Clover Blossom Honey—Raw and Unfiltered

Next up is the Clover Honey, and oh my, this one is a kitchen essential. The flavor is classic and floral with a smooth finish, making it a perfect all-purpose honey. I used it in everything from breakfast yogurt to salad dressings. The raw and unfiltered aspect really shines here—you can taste the depth and purity of the honey, and it has become my go-to for everyday sweetness.

Orange Blossom Honey—Raw and Unfiltered

Now let’s get to my absolute favorite—the Orange Blossom Honey. I used this one in my tea, and wow! It’s fragrant, with delicate citrusy notes that elevate the whole experience. I’m talking about that moment when you take a sip and pause just to savor the flavor—it’s that good. There’s something incredibly comforting about this honey, and it’s now a permanent addition to my tea-time ritual. If you’re a tea lover, trust me, you’ll want to stock up on this one.

Utah Wildflower Honey – Raw and Unfiltered

Last but definitely not least is the Utah Wildflower Honey, and this one has a special place in my heart because I used it in my pecan sticky buns from my cookbook Sheila’s Kitchen Chronicles. Let me tell you, this honey was made for baking! The flavor is rich and complex, with earthy, floral undertones that gave my sticky buns incredible depth. It added the most amazing aroma to my kitchen while it baked.

Pecan Sticky Buns

Prep Time: 30 minutes

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Servings: 12 buns

INGREDIENTS:

FOR THE DOUGH:

FOR THE FILLING:

FOR THE PECAN TOPPING:

DIRECTIONS:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until the mixture is frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast mixture, sugar, melted butter, eggs, flour, and salt. Stir until a soft dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. While the dough is rising, prepare the filling by combining the softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a small bowl. Mix until well combined.
  5. In a saucepan, melt the ½ cup of butter for the pecan topping over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar, honey, and heavy cream. Bring the mixture to a boil, then remove from heat and stir in the chopped pecans. Pour this mixture into the bottom of a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  6. Once the dough has doubled in size, punch it down and roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle, about 12×18 inches.
  7. Spread the filling evenly over the dough rectangle, leaving a small border around the edges. Starting from one long side, tightly roll up the dough into a log.
  8. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces using a sharp knife. Place the rolls cut side down into the prepared baking dish on top of the pecan mixture.
  9. Cover the dish with a clean towel or plastic wrap and let the rolls rise for an additional 30 minutes.
  10. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Once the rolls have risen, bake them in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  11. Allow the rolls to cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then carefully invert them onto a serving platter or baking sheet so that the pecan topping is on top. Serve warm and enjoy!
