Hamburger Soup~ A Simple Yummy Recipe

October 23, 2010

During the fall, I love to start making homemade soups. I like to serve them with cornbread. This soup is so easy to make and I have seen many versions of this recipe. My mom has made this soup for years. Usually I  make my moms version. She adds potatoes , stewed tomatoes, ground meat or stew meat, carrots and so on. Today while browsing different recipe sites I found a recipe for this soup that uses ground meat, dry onion soup mix, mixed vegetables and chicken broth. I have to say I was apprehensive of using chicken broth in this recipe because when I make hamburger soup I use beef broth, so this is the first time I have tried this version. I have to tell you I am so glad i did.  I changed up the recipe a bit  and left out the celery. It is so delicious.I made this soup last night and am serving it today. I am eager to see how my son likes this soup. I am serving this with cornbread. I hope you will try this recipe. It is easy, doesnt take a lot of time, and great for your budget. You will need the following ingredients for the recipe: two pounds lean ground meat, two (15oz) cans tomato sauce,1 large can of stewed tomatoes, two packages dry onion soup mix, eight cups of chicken, broth, eight cups of water, one large onion, seasoned salt, two small packages of mixed frozen vegetables, one package frozen corn, two cups elbow macaroni. This recipe will make a large pot of soup and freezes great.

Directions:
1. To large stew pot add chicken broth, water, tomato sauce, and dry soup mix. Bring water to boil and
add macaroni.  While macaroni is cooking brown ground beef and drain. I use season salt to season the ground beef.2. Add remaining vegetables, and ground beef and simmer for 30 min to 1 hour.
