DIRECTIONS:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, sugar, melted butter, salt, and egg. Add in 3 cups of flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing until dough starts to form. Use the remaining flour to dust your working surface.
  2. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until it’s smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  3. Once risen, roll out the dough on a floured surface into a 14×9-inch rectangle. Spread the softened butter over the dough. Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle it evenly over the buttered dough.
  4. Starting from the long edge, roll the dough up tightly and cut into 12 equal pieces. Place the rolls in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, cover, and let them rise again for 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the cinnamon rolls for 25 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
  6. While the rolls are baking, make the cream cheese icing by beating together cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and enough milk to achieve a smooth, spreadable consistency.
  7. Remove the cinnamon rolls from the oven and allow them to cool slightly before spreading the icing on top.
