Why Desserts Aren’t All That Bad For You

Spread the love

Cooking or making a dessert for yourself is no bad thing. It’s a sign you’ve got some amazing baking skills, and it’s a lovely way to round off lunch or dinner time when you’re eating with family. And seeing as there are so many types of desserts out there, there’s always going to be something for everyone on the table.

But so many people out there completely disregard dessert as an unhealthy item you should never touch, and we believe that’s simply unfair! A good dessert has many benefits for you, even if there’s a bit of sugar and some carbs in there. And with that in mind, here are our top reasons as to why desserts aren’t all that bad for you.

They Help Beat Cravings

Desserts are good for banishing those chocolate, cookie, and ice cream cravings we all get. If you’re eating one small dessert a few times a week, or even every day, you can get rid of those midweek cravings that arise from a lack of carbs or simple boredom when you’re stuck at work doing something you hate.

Cravings happen due to a lack of reward. Our brains light up during times of pleasure, and if you like sweet things, desserts are going to be one such time you feel great. And if you remove this source completely, the cravings will bunker down and bother you for weeks on end. That’s good for no one!

Think of Them as a Controlled Hit of Sweetness

If you’re someone who’s prone to snacking, a dessert alongside your dinner is a great way to control the amount of sugar you eat. Giving into your sweet tooth isn’t a bad thing when you do so in moderation! And knowing you’ve got a lovely surprise waiting towards the end of the day can help you put that chocolate bar back on the shelf.

But this benefit doesn’t stop there. When you make the desserts yourself, you can control just how much of each ingredient goes in. When you know what’s in a dish, you can feel much more calm and confident about eating the sweet and tasty result!

Healthy Versions Can Be Made

Desserts can be made to suit the person or people at the table. Because of that, you can make any kind of sweet treat you like to be lactose free, low carb, gluten free, organic, or simply low sugar. It’s just a matter of changing the recipe here and there, or finding one to suit you.

Say you are gluten free, this gluten free sprinkle sugar cookies recipe could be a Godsend if you’ve been craving a few cookies to munch on recently! Indeed, you can remove the ‘worst’ parts of a dessert that have been really worrying you, and replace them with a more suitable substitute without ruining the dish altogether.

Desserts don’t have to be bad for you. Indulge in them when you want to; it’s a matter of moderation!
