Spread the love

You’ve recently started training at the gym, running, or swimming – or doing any other kind of physical activity, for that matter – and you’re starting to think about how you can further support your progress through your diet.

The truth is that the foods that you put into your body aren’t just important for keeping your full and making you feel satisfied, they’re also vital for supporting your health, which becomes even more important when you’re working on a new health and fitness regime.

The question is, of course, what does it take to use your diet to support your fitness and how you can ensure that you’re doing it right? For everything that you need to know about how to use your diet to support your exercise journey, have a read of our handy guide below.

Get your five a day (every single day)

If you’re going to give your health the boost it needs, it’s vital that you’re getting lots of fruits and vegetables in your diet, which is why it’s so crucial that you make sure you’re getting your five portions or fruit and vegetables each day.

Not sure how to get them all in? Start by blending a couple of portions down into a healthy smoothie made with high-protein nut or coconut milk. Make a soup packed full of veggies for a healthy and fillng lunch. Snack on fruits and vegetables whenever you get peckish between meals. Ensure that your main meal in the evening is 80 percent vegetable-based.

Eat the right amount of calories

For giving your fitness a boost, focusing on your caloies and the amount of food that you’re consuming is important.

Start calorie counting so that you can ensure that you’re eating the right amount of calories per day – not too little and not too many. For easier calorie counting, you might find calorie counting apps like My Fitness Pal a good resources to use.

Struggle to get enough calories in each day? Protein shakes can be a great way to boost your calorie consumption, as well as giving your protein levels a boost. They come in lots of flavours and can be purchased ready made or in a powder form that’s added to milk or water.

Add supplements to your diet

While you can get a lot of what you need from the foods that you eat, sometimes adding supplements to your diet can be a smart move to make. If there’s something that you’re finding tricky, like dealing with ongoing muscular pain after exercise, adding a few drops of cbd oil to your smoothies could help to reduce the pain and inflammation that you’re dealing with.

Not sure what supplements to add to your diet? You might want to speak with a fitness coach to determine what kinds of support your body could benefit from. Once you know what to use, you can add supplements to your diet to help enhance your health and wellness and give your training a boost.

There you have it, a guide to how you can use your diet to support your fitness.
