Healthy Eating

You Definitely Are What You Eat And Here’s The Proof

Spread the love

When we think about food, we often consider the impact it is having on our weight. Specifically, we want to make sure that what we eat doesn’t impact the shape and aesthetic of our body. However, it’s important to realise that food changes far more than just how much you weigh. Your diet can have a massive impact on various areas of the body and even your mind. Here are some of the ways that food does impact you and a few steps that you  can take to protect your health.

Skin

It’s perhaps worth noting that your skin is the largest organ of the body and incredibly important to your health as well your beauty. For instance, in the summer you need to make sure that you are protecting your skin from the most powerful rays of the sun. If you don’t do this, then you could develop something like skin cancer.

So, how does food impact your skin? Well, there are a variety of issues that you need to be aware of here. For instance, you could be eating sugary foods. If that’s the case, then you are going to find that your skin is more greasy than usual and oily too. This can cause the development of issues like acne. Indeed, many nutritionists and beauticians claim that with the right diet changes, acne can disappear completely.

You also need to make sure that you are getting enough water in your diet. You are supposed to drink 2 litres of water each day to keep your health on the right track. If you are not drinking enough water, then you’re going to get dry skin which will flake. If you can’t drink that much water, then you need to make sure that you are getting food that is mainly water such as fruits.

Teeth

Next, you need to think about how your diet impacts your teeth. There are a few problems to be aware of here. For instance, when you’re choosing food for your diet, you need to think about whether it’s going to stain your teeth. A few foods like coffee and coke do stain your teeth and leave them looking far less than pearly white. If you are worried about this, then you can think about using straws to ensure that most of the liquids go past your teeth, rather than damaging them.

Many people assume that if you brush your teeth regularly, floss and use mouthwash, you can have whatever diet you like and your teeth will remain healthy. However, that’s not the case and these items can only provide so much protection. For instance, you do need to make sure that you are getting enough milk in your diet. This is going to help keep your teeth strong and healthy. That’s a problem if you have a special diet. If you are not drinking milk, then you will need to make sure that you are using an appropriate substitute.

Mood

It’s possible for the food that you eat to impact your mood too. Most people are vaguely aware of the fact that chocolate can change your mood. Infact, research shows that chocolate releases the same endorphins that are associated with feelings of love. The problem with food like this is that while it will give a high, it will also provide a low too. This is actually quite similar to the impact of drinking alcohol or even using drugs. That’s why you need to be careful about how much chocolate you eat and there are other types of food that cause similar effects.

It’s even possible that you are struggling with an addiction to certain foods. You can actually get addicted to anything and this includes foods that are filled with sugar, sweeteners or fats. If you think that you might be addicted to a particular food, then you may want to consider making some changes to your diet. There are a few signs that you might be suffering from an addiction. If you don’t get the food you’re addicted to you’ll be more moody, irritable and potentially low on energy levels.

Immune System

Your immune system is impacted by a range of different things including food. If you eat certain foods then you will find that you are less likely to catch certain illnesses or develop particular health conditions. People often wonder how doctors avoid getting ill when they work with patients all day every day. Aside from good hygiene, they do eat particular foods including fruit and veg that are filled with antioxidants. These reduce issues with oxygenation in the body and in turn ensure that you don’t have to worry about your immune system being compromised. Eating the right food is just one of the tips to boost and support your immune system.

Obviously, this is an important consideration right now. While there is no evidence to suggest a healthy diet will make you less likely to contract the coronavirus pandemic, it will strengthen your health overall and ensure that you can fight back against any virus you catch.

Hair

Your diet can even impact your hair. Both the way your hair looks and feels will change depending on the food that you eat. If you want to ensure that your hair looks beautiful, thick and shiny, it’s vital that you get the right minerals and vitamins. This is often just a case of eating the right fruit and veg. Eating the right foods might even stop your hair from going grey or falling out as you get older. However, it’s important to note that there’s a lot that can impact your hair including stress.

Sleep

You might find that you struggle to sleep at night on occasion. This could also be tied to your diet as well. If you eat the wrong foods late at night then you are going to find that you struggle to close your eyes. You might think that this only includes caffeinated foods however that’s not the case. Sugary foods will keep you up too and even spicy foods could have the wrong impact here.

It’s also worth noting that some foods can have positive impacts on your sleep habits. For instance, if you eat bananas these are filled with potassium. That will steady your body and ensure that you’re not tossing and turning all through the night. It will guarantee you do feel well rested when you wake up each morning.

Odor

Do you love smelling great? The way we smell is fascinating as there’s quite a lot of research to suggest that scents are how we find a mate and form romantic connections. This may be more important than some of the other traits that we value including behavior and interests. If you someone likes your smell, they might be willing to ignore other traits that might turn them off. You might be surprised to learn that food can have a profound impact on your smell.

One of the reasons for this is that what you eat will come out through the pores of your skin. However, there are also certain foods that impact your smell more. For instance, if you eat garlic then studies suggest that you are going to smell absolutely fantastic. This is due to the fact that garlic has antibacterial properties which kills the bacteria on your skin that causes issues with nasty odor.

As you can see, there are countless ways that food can dramatically impact your health, your body and even your mind. If you change your diet, you will see drastic improvements to your well being. You’ll feel younger and look younger too.
