Healthy Eating

Healthy desserts that are big crowd pleasers

Spread the love

You’ve eaten your meal, and now it’s time for the best part; dessert! Everyone looks forward to this part of the meal, but it’s always the unhealthiest part. In fact, some people can make a healthy meal unhealthy by their choice of dessert. This is because it’s so full of sugar and calories that it cancels out the main course’s goodness.

Consequently, you’re left thinking that you can’t have dessert and eat healthily. Thankfully, you’re wrong! Healthy desserts exist, and they are much nicer than you expect.

Fruit Platters

I once heard someone say that fruit is the sweets of nature. In a way, that’s kind of true! They are very sweet, which makes them a great dessert. You can put together a fruit platter that contains lots of popular fruits all on the same tray. It’s not hard to find a fruit tray recipe that will tell you which fruits work well together and what dips you can make. That’s right, you can add some dips to this platter to make the fruit even tastier. Melted dark chocolate is always a winner as you get the choccie fix but slightly healthier.

Baked Pears

Baked pears are easy to make and provide a healthier alternative to an apple crumble. All you have to do is put some pears in the oven and bake them until they become nice and soft. Some people marinade the pears beforehand, but the choice is yours. You can serve it with a small spoonful of ice cream and some granola. This gives you the crunchy effect that a crumble would bring, but with hardly any sugar. Here’s a quick recipe below to give you some baked pear inspiration:

Poached Rhubarb & Yogurt

Poached fruits will always go down an absolute treat. Actually, you can take the previous idea and swap it for poached pears as well. Still, this recipe is all about rhubarb. On its own, this is quite a tart fruit that’s not very appealing. However, when you poach it, it becomes very juicy and delicious. Serve your poached rhubarb with some Greek yogurt to get a creamy and sweet bowl of deliciousness. The bright pinkness of the rhubarb makes the dish look even sweeter!

Watermelon Granita

Have you ever had granita before? It’s basically shaved ice but flavored with fruit or mint. You see them served on beaches when you’re on holiday, mainly in Europe. You can make your own at home, and it is super delicious and very healthy. All you need is a watermelon, some lime juice, and a touch of sugar. Blend this together and add to a freezer-proof tray. Pop it in your freezer and take it out every hour to scrape the ice. Once there’s no more ice to scrape, you can serve it up in little bowls. It’s refreshing, sweet, tangy, and only requires three ingredients!

If you’re trying to eat healthily but can’t give up your desserts, these recipes are perfect for you. They’re easy to make, packed full of nutritious goodness, and very low in fat and calories.
